Yes! Adrift Tongariro guide all year, summer and winter. We are closed Christmas day.

Yes, trips operate on a minimum of 2 persons.

Know before you go

All tours except 2 Hour Pre Sunset Guided Walk starts and finishes at the Adrift Tongariro Base, 53 Carroll St, National Park Village. Ph: +64 7 892 2751

If you have any concerns about the weather, please speak to Adrift directly. Obtaining advice from other parties can lead to incorrect information about your trip.

All customers are required to reconfirm between 10:00am – 5:00pm the day prior to trip date.  Single bookings 3 days prior to establish if minimum numbers have been met.

It is essential for each participant to fill out a waiver prior to arriving on site. Look out for your unique link or QR code in your inbox 3 days before your tour date.

Adrift Tongariro provides our vehicles to transport you and the guides from the Adrift Tongariro base in National Park village to the start of the walk / tour, and at the end of the tour we transport you from the end of the walk / tour back to the Adrift Tongariro base in National Park Village. Once you arrive back at our base you then return in your vehicle back to your accommodation.

We recommend that clients with their own vehicles self drive to our shop. Clients can park their vehicle outside the Adrift Tongariro base safely, at no cost for the day. If this is not an option, accommodation transfers from Whakapapa Village, Turangi and Taupo CBD can be booked as an additional service and cost over and above the tour cost at the time of booking.

Adrift Tongariro has available for hire personal equipment, footwear and clothing to supplement that which you don’t have and need. On the morning of the trip, we check your gear and can fit you with whatever you may need.

No experience is required for our guided walks or guided canoe tours.

Your guide (or guides) will manage the different walking speeds of the group. If you are extremely fast or slow, then a privately guided trip could be an excellent option.

Lunch is not included in any tour, you will need to bring your own. Lunch is available as a separate booked item at an additional cost at the time of booking. We have two options: standard or vegetarian. Please note you are not able to purchase your lunch before the tour in National Park Village. We recommend organising your lunch the day prior to the tour.

For children under 12 years of age please call Adrift Tongariro for approval. A privately guided trip may be recommended. Alpine conditions are not suitable for babies and toddlers.

Absolutely. We offer exclusive privately guided tours on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, Mt Ruapehu and Whanganui River.

We recommend clients stay one night at least in National Park village to limit wasted travelling time and to make the day of the tour a little easier. See our Tongariro accommodation page.

What to expect on the day

You can park your vehicle on the street outside the Adrift Tongariro base safely, at no cost for the tour. There are no time or size restrictions.

National Park Village is small and there are no cafes or supermarkets open early in the morning. You are not able to purchase your lunch before the tour in National Park Village.

Yes. The longest period without toilets is about 3-4 hours in the middle of the hike.
